Scholarships

Four-year Scholarships

We award four-year music Scholarships to children who have started learning an instrument and are making excellent progress but whose families find it difficult to pay for music lessons, meaning that without our support they would have to give up their studies.

What does a Scholar receive?

  • Weekly instrumental tuition at a suitably challenging level - this is normally one-to-one, or occasionally in small groups

  • Compulsory attendance at a weekly ensemble of a suitably challenging level

  • Regular performance opportunities at school, music service and elsewhere

  • Invitations to attend special projects and go on trips to professional concerts

  • A well maintained instrument which can be taken home

  • A named Mentor who is the liaison between the Scholar and family, music tutor and school

In order to be put forward for a Scholarship, the child must:

  • Be in Year 5 at the latest

  • Attend a junior school in London where there are no school fees

  • Have been learning a musical instrument for a minimum of one year

  • Show potential and commitment to learning

  • Be in a family where the ongoing cost of tuition would be prohibitive

How do I apply?

Scholarship applications are submitted by London's Music Hubs, and children are usually put forward by a teacher at their primary school. We cannot accept applications from parents/carers.

To find your local music service, and how to get in touch with them, please follow this link or speak to your child's music teacher/headteacher. If you are interested in finding out more about Scholarships, please contact us.

“Thanks to the London Music Fund Emilia met similar children and wonderful teachers who showed her the freedom of music, the change that music can make in her life, the uniqueness of herself... She became more confident, she practiced more and with joy, she heard many talented musicians and saw many wonderful places. You have changed her future already and you are changing the future of the people around her as well and for that we would like to say a very huge THANK YOU!!!!”
